Getting Back

Trying to bring myself back on track. I'm still quite distracted with everything else that’s happening right now. The boom of AI had me confused, industries are not sure of the impact of it on filmmaking, while some people are fighting against it, others have fully embraced it. Some directors are starting to build AI studios, though what that entails is unclear.
As far as I can tell, writing with AI as a way to organize thoughts works beautifully, especially when it comes to history, politics, comparing difference sources of records (i use the word “facts” very carefully now, as most “facts” I thought were facts, are in fact not accurate at all), connecting the dots, tracing back to what was happening across the board, globally, at any given time in the past, to understand how many factors were at play and how they all connected to one another. Seeing all these events and factors play out was impossible without AI, as I’d have had all that knowledge to begin with to connect them. But now since AI is so good at processing information, it can tell me the connections, and I can go from there.
However, as far as creative writing goes, it’s a shit show. It’s impossible. The point of storytelling is so that you could manipulate all the details, all the ups and downs, nuances in the tone, what you decide to include or not include, the subtext, the eyes, that smile the character is trying to hide from the girl he loves. Trying to make AI do that is like asking it to fully understand what’s in your head, which it can’t, and also as your idea evolves and develops, the AI has to stay synchronized and update it, which is impossible, and wouldn’t be ethical.
The result is that it’s much instantly gratifying to write analytical articles with AI, while in creative writing, AI is essentially not usable. It gives me notes that I ignore and turn down, its reading on my personality profile is way off.
Visually, it produces stunning results. It enables artists to realise their visions that otherwise would take forever or completely impossible. It’s nice to see their inner world this way. Same with all the other steps in visual effects or post that would previously require lots of frame-by-frame rotoscoping, matchmove, etc etc, which I assume is liberating with AI.
The industry is going through changes, it’s still figuring out how to integrate the new technology in their process / pipelines, nor do they know what kind of person they are looking for to fill these new positions, since technically no one has experience with it yet, everyone is new. The qualifications become irrelevant at this point, the ability to adapt, learn, and figuring things out is far more important, which are far more complex to identity in a person, and therefore can’t be found by going through the qualifications.
A while back, I was getting worried that not having worked for anyone for two years now would put me at a disadvantage in the job market, but it seems like the demand for my particular set of skills is still high, even though job posters don’t exactly know how to look for them or explain or know what it is exactly that they are looking for. So let’s turn back to creative art, as it is always the most autonomous, most free, most reliable form of practice that’s completely within my control.
What I’m trying to say is this: the path I'm chosen is actually not chosen by me, it’s chosen by the circumstances disguised as free will. We all do what we can, what is needed, even when what’s needed is not clear. I'm curious about having a better understanding of the world. I’m building a general education system with knowledge that I’m curious about, that I feel as a global citizen of 2026 should know. Researching is personal, but publishing it is an act of public communication, or PSA if you will. Though, I had never seen a PSA this long, of this mass, but important things take time to digest. It’s discouraging, why spend all that time processing information that’s from the past, from places we’ve never been, but that’s living in 2026, you can’t fully be an outsider to anything happening anywhere anymore. At least that’s how I felt, it produced a lot of anxieties inside of me not knowing what’s going on. Even if I can't be a better person, I can at least be a more informed one.
